Norfolk, VA — A winter storm is set to bring heavy snow and hazardous conditions to eastern Virginia and northeast North Carolina from Wednesday morning through Thursday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, VA, snowfall between 5 and 10 inches is expected across southeast Virginia, including Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake, with wind gusts reaching up to 30 mph. Northeast North Carolina counties, such as Hertford, Pasquotank, and Currituck, could see between 5 and 9 inches of snow, with possible light ice accumulations.

The storm will begin around 10 a.m. Wednesday and continue through 6 p.m. Thursday, making travel dangerous during morning and evening commutes. Central and south-central Virginia, including Prince Edward and Dinwiddie counties, are expected to receive 3 to 6 inches of snow starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.
