Richmond, VA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across much of Virginia and northeastern North Carolina through 9 a.m. EST Tuesday, December 9, 2025, as light snow and freezing conditions create slick roads and icy sidewalks, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
Forecasters say additional snow accumulations up to one inch are possible overnight, with temperatures falling below freezing before sunrise. This will lead to patchy ice, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads.
The advisory covers a wide region from central Virginia to the coast, including Richmond, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton Roads, Gloucester, Mathews, Petersburg, and Mecklenburg County, as well as northeastern North Carolina counties such as Camden, Currituck, and Pasquotank.
Any remaining snow or wet pavement is likely to refreeze overnight, creating hazardous travel conditions through the morning commute.
Residents are urged to drive slowly, allow extra time, and watch for black ice on shaded roadways and sidewalks. Road condition updates are available at 511virginia.org and DriveNC.gov.
