Blacksburg, VA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg has issued a Wind Advisory for parts of Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia, warning of gusts up to 50 mph from Sunday evening through early Monday morning.
The advisory covers Ashe, Alleghany, and Watauga counties in North Carolina, Carroll, Floyd, Grayson, and Bath counties in Virginia, and Eastern and Western Greenbrier counties in West Virginia.
According to the NWS, northwest to west winds of 20 to 30 mph will develop this evening, peaking overnight before tapering off around sunrise Monday. The strongest gusts are expected in higher elevations and exposed ridges along the Blue Ridge Mountains and Appalachian Plateau.
Forecasters warn that unsecured outdoor items could be blown around, while tree limbs may break, leading to isolated power outages. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use extra caution, especially along open stretches of Interstate 77 and U.S. Route 221.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and trash bins ahead of the evening wind event. Conditions are expected to gradually improve by late Monday morning.
