Virginia starts the morning with damp pavement and thick gray clouds hanging over Virginia Beach. Temperatures sit near 44 degrees, but change is coming fast. The air feels unsettled, and winds are already beginning to stir.
Rain develops early, then transitions to a rain and snow mix this afternoon. A Winter Weather Advisory takes effect at 1 PM and runs through Monday evening. Snow accumulations up to 2 inches are possible across parts of southeast Virginia.
At the same time, a Wind Advisory goes into effect this evening. Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph will gust as high as 45 mph. Those gusts could knock down small limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Driving may become difficult, especially on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and along I-264.
As temperatures fall into the lower 30s tonight, wet roads may turn slick. Bridges and overpasses will freeze first. Plan extra time for travel and reduce speed during heavier bursts of snow.
Monday brings lingering chances of rain and snow with highs near 41. Any additional snow accumulation looks light. Skies gradually clear Monday night as temperatures dip into the upper 20s, raising the risk for refreezing and isolated icy patches by early Tuesday.
Tuesday, February 24th turns sunny with a high near 41. Wednesday warms further into the mid-50s with partial sunshine. By Thursday, highs approach the upper 50s with rain chances returning. Late week trends milder, hinting at early spring warmth building into next weekend.
