Emporia, Va. – Residents across southern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina will wake up to a chilly start Saturday as temperatures dip into the low to mid-30s under a Frost Advisory. The National Weather Service in Wakefield says the advisory remains in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday, with frost likely to form in rural and low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory covers Brunswick, Dinwiddie, Mecklenburg, Greensville, Southampton, and Sussex counties in Virginia, along with Bertie, Hertford, and Northampton counties in North Carolina. Overnight temperatures could fall enough to damage sensitive vegetation and outdoor plants if left uncovered.

Agricultural officials recommend covering tender plants, bringing potted greenery indoors, and avoiding watering late in the evening. Drivers may also see light frost accumulation on windshields early Saturday, particularly in open areas along U.S. Route 58 and Interstate 85.

Temperatures are expected to rebound into the 50s by afternoon, but another round of cold air could return early next week. Residents should monitor updates in case additional advisories are issued before Tuesday.
