Richmond, VA – A Frost Advisory has been issued for much of central and southern Virginia and parts of northeastern North Carolina, effective from 2 a.m. until 9 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.

Temperatures are forecast to dip to around 33 degrees, leading to widespread frost formation across counties including Amelia, Prince Edward, Hanover, Dinwiddie, Sussex, Brunswick, and Mecklenburg in Virginia, and Northampton and Hertford in North Carolina.

Meteorologist RMM with the NWS says frost could damage or kill sensitive plants if left uncovered. Residents are urged to bring potted plants indoors, cover garden crops, and protect outdoor pipes or irrigation lines before temperatures drop overnight.

This chilly spell marks one of the first frost events of the season for much of the Richmond–Petersburg–Emporia corridor, signaling the likely end of the growing season in rural areas.

Forecasters note that frost will be most widespread in low-lying and sheltered valleys, while urban centers may stay slightly warmer. Temperatures are expected to rebound into the mid-50s by Friday afternoon under sunny skies.
