Danville, VA – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Freezing Fog Advisory for portions of southern Virginia and northern North Carolina, in effect until 9 a.m. EST Sunday, December 7.

The advisory covers Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Halifax, and Pittsylvania Counties in Virginia, and extends south into Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin Counties in North Carolina.

Forecasters warn that visibility could drop to one-quarter mile or less, with temperatures below freezing causing black ice and slick travel conditions overnight. Fog and ice accumulation may be most hazardous on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads, where moisture can freeze quickly.

Drivers are urged to reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra following distance while traveling through fog-prone areas. Commuters should use caution through early morning as conditions improve gradually after sunrise when temperatures rise above freezing.

This Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. EST Sunday.
