Norfolk, VA/Elizabeth City, NC – A Flood Watch has been issued for parts of southside Hampton Roads in Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, including Norfolk, VA, and Elizabeth City, NC. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of heavy rainfall and slow-moving storms that could lead to flash flooding in these regions throughout Saturday afternoon and into the evening.

According to the NWS Wakefield Office, the combination of significant rainfall and already saturated ground from Tropical Storm Debby has heightened the flood threat across both Virginia and North Carolina. Urban areas like Norfolk and Elizabeth City, especially those with poor drainage systems, are particularly vulnerable to flash flooding.

Residents in both states are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions. Flash flooding can occur with little warning, posing serious risks to both life and property. The Flood Watch is expected to remain in effect until midnight, with showers likely to continue into Sunday. Highs in Norfolk are predicted to reach 91°F, while Elizabeth City can expect temperatures around 90°F.

Authorities in both Virginia and North Carolina recommend avoiding flooded roadways, securing loose outdoor items, and staying informed on weather updates as conditions may change rapidly. Further information will be provided as the situation unfolds.
