Virginia – Thick ocean fog hangs low over Virginia Beach this morning, swallowing streetlights and blurring the shoreline. Visibility in some areas has dropped to a quarter mile or less, creating hazardous driving conditions across coastal roads.
The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory through 10 a.m. for southeast Virginia and parts of northeast North Carolina. Moist air flowing in from the Atlantic has allowed fog to expand across the region overnight and into the early morning hours.
Drivers along I-264, I-64, and Shore Drive may encounter sudden visibility drops. Headlights glow faintly through the haze as traffic slows across Hampton Roads.
Plan extra travel time this morning. Use low-beam headlights and leave extra space between vehicles. Visibility can change quickly near the coast and along inland waterways.
Conditions should improve steadily through late morning as sunlight begins breaking through the cloud layer. Temperatures will climb to around 70°F, helping the fog gradually burn off.
Once the fog lifts, the day becomes mostly sunny and mild along the Virginia Beach coastline.
However, the next weather system arrives late this weekend. Showers and thunderstorms become possible Sunday afternoon and evening. Some storms could bring gusty winds and small hail, though widespread severe weather is not expected at this time.
After the rain clears, a mild stretch of early-spring weather settles in. Highs reach the low 60s Monday, followed by sunshine and temperatures near 68°F Tuesday.
Another seasonal change arrives early Sunday morning when Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Clocks jump forward one hour, bringing longer daylight evenings across Virginia.
Meteorologists also say a broader warming trend may build across the eastern U.S. through midweek.
