Richmond, VA – The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Frost Advisory effective from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Saturday, as temperatures are forecast to dip to between 33 and 36 degrees across a wide portion of central, eastern, and southeastern Virginia, as well as northeast North Carolina.

The advisory covers Richmond, Petersburg, Hopewell, Suffolk, Gloucester, Middlesex, Isle of Wight, Brunswick, Mecklenburg, and Southampton counties in Virginia, along with Northampton, Hertford, Gates, and Bertie counties in North Carolina.

According to the NWS, frost formation could damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered. Residents are advised to bring potted plants indoors, cover gardens, and protect exposed pipes before midnight. Rural and low-lying areas may see temperatures briefly fall to 32 degrees, producing patchy to widespread frost by sunrise.

This advisory marks one of the first significant cold spells of the season, signaling the end of the growing season for much of the region. Temperatures are expected to rebound into the upper 50s and 60s later Saturday afternoon.
