Blacksburg, Va. — Warm, dry weather continues across southwest Virginia today, but a shift is on the way as showers creep in from the west by Tuesday. Monday’s highs will climb into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees across much of the New River and Roanoke valleys, making for one of the last mild days before a midweek cool-down.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, light winds and mostly sunny skies will hold through this evening, with patchy fog possible early Monday and again overnight. By Tuesday, a 30 to 60 percent chance of showers develops west of I-81, especially near Bluefield, Wytheville, and Galax. Rainfall amounts are expected to stay under half an inch, but localized downpours could make for slick morning commutes.
Temperatures will ease slightly Tuesday, topping out in the mid-70s before falling into the mid-40s by Wednesday night. Sunshine and cooler air return midweek, with highs in the low 60s Thursday and mostly clear skies through the end of the week.
Residents are advised to keep umbrellas handy Tuesday and allow extra time for travel on wet roads.
