Blacksburg, Virginia – Showers will return to Blacksburg by Sunday afternoon, starting a multi-day stretch of damp weather that could impact holiday travel and Memorial Day plans across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, rain chances rise to 30% after 1 p.m. Sunday, increasing to 40% by Sunday night. Roads like Route 460 could become slick by evening, with rainfall continuing intermittently through at least Tuesday night. Memorial Day itself will see only a slight chance of showers (20%), but heavier rain is expected to resume overnight and into Tuesday, with a 90% chance of precipitation during the day.

Residents planning outdoor barbecues or travel for the long weekend should monitor conditions closely and prepare for changing skies. Pack rain gear if attending local events and avoid waterlogged roadways. No severe storms are currently expected, but even light rain can cause delays on busy highways.

Looking ahead, showers and potential thunderstorms continue into Wednesday and Thursday, with a 70% chance of rain likely by Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will remain seasonable to warm, with highs near 70°F Sunday and rising into the mid-70s by midweek.

Thursday’s forecast also includes a 40% chance of thunderstorms, making it the first true summer-feel day of the week, though outdoor activities could again be at risk.

More showers are possible through Friday, and updates from the NWS will continue as conditions evolve.
