Richmond, VA – A winter weather advisory has been issued for portions of central Virginia and southeast Maryland, with mixed precipitation expected from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning. Sleet accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch could create hazardous road conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, VA, the advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday for Dorchester County in Maryland and Fluvanna, Goochland, Caroline, Westmoreland, and several other counties in Virginia. A separate advisory for Western Louisa County extends until 10 a.m. Thursday due to higher ice accumulation potential.
Drivers should expect slippery roads and difficult travel conditions, especially during the Thursday morning commute. The Virginia and Maryland Departments of Transportation advise motorists to slow down, use caution, and check 511 for real-time road updates.
Residents in affected areas should prepare for possible power outages due to ice accumulation on power lines. If travel is necessary, extra time should be allotted to account for hazardous conditions.
Stay updated on changing weather conditions and be prepared for potential delays on Thursday morning.
