Virginia – A sharp March breeze slides through Northern Virginia neighborhoods this morning, rattling bare branches and pushing cold air across sidewalks. Temperatures hover near 27°F around Annandale, but conditions will shift quickly as sunshine and stronger winds develop through the afternoon. Commuters across the Beltway may notice gusty crosswinds on exposed roads and bridges.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, winds will increase steadily today as a southerly flow strengthens. Afternoon gusts could reach 40 mph across parts of Fairfax County and along major routes like I-495 and I-66. Temperatures climb toward 54°F, but the brisk wind will keep the air feeling cooler.

Conditions calm slightly tonight as skies clear and temperatures settle near 40°F. Saturday brings a quieter stretch with mostly sunny skies and highs near 57°F across Northern Virginia. Outdoor plans should benefit from calmer winds and brighter skies.

Clouds gradually return Sunday as a new system approaches the Mid-Atlantic. Temperatures climb to around 61°F during the afternoon, offering a mild preview of spring. However, moisture increases later in the day and rain begins spreading toward the Washington metro area by evening.

Rain becomes widespread Sunday night across Northern Virginia, including Annandale, Arlington, and Alexandria. Wet pavement could slow traffic along I-95, I-395, and the Capital Beltway.

Showers continue Monday with temperatures rising to around 70°F. Periods of rain and breezy winds may affect the afternoon commute throughout the region.

A sharp cooldown arrives late Monday night as temperatures drop toward 32°F. Any lingering moisture could refreeze on bridges and overpasses, creating patchy slick spots early Tuesday morning.

Meteorologists continue monitoring this shifting March weather pattern across the Mid-Atlantic.
