Wakefield, VA – The National Weather Service has issued multiple marine advisories affecting Virginia and North Carolina coastal waters, including the Chesapeake Bay, due to hazardous conditions this weekend.

According to the NWS Wakefield, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Saturday, reducing visibility to less than one nautical mile in some areas. A Small Craft Advisory follows, beginning Saturday evening and lasting into early next week, with winds reaching 30 knots and seas building up to 10 feet offshore. A Gale Watch is also in effect for Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening, warning of even stronger gusts up to 35 knots.

Affected areas include Chesapeake Bay, Currituck Sound, and offshore waters from Fenwick Island, DE, to Currituck Beach Light, NC. Mariners are urged to use extreme caution, secure their vessels, and consider postponing trips.

Inexperienced boaters are advised to remain in port, as strong winds and reduced visibility could make navigation dangerous. Those at sea should use radar, keep lights on, and monitor weather updates.
