Richmond, VA – Drivers in Henrico County should prepare for significant delays on Interstate 64 westbound starting Thursday night as the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) initiates a series of lane closures for concrete repairs.

According to VDOT, all westbound lanes at mile marker 202.2 will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, April 24, through 6 a.m. Friday, April 25. If weather allows, the full lane closure will resume again from 12 p.m. Friday until 12 p.m. Sunday, April 27. Following that, a single lane closure will remain in effect from 12 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, April 28.

Motorists will be detoured from I-64 westbound at Exit 200 (I-295/US-60) and routed to the I-295 north and south ramps. Drivers are advised to remain in the left lane to re-enter I-64 westbound smoothly. The I-295 ramps will stay open throughout the project duration.

Originally slated for earlier in the week, the work was postponed due to expected inclement weather. VDOT emphasized that all operations remain weather-dependent and could shift again if conditions deteriorate.

Travelers can get real-time traffic updates through 511Virginia at 511virginia.org or via the mobile app. Questions about the project can be directed to VDOT’s customer service center at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).

Motorists planning to use I-64 west through Henrico this weekend are strongly encouraged to plan alternate routes and expect delays during the maintenance period.
