Blacksburg, Va. – A relentless stretch of summer heat will grip much of southwest Virginia through Monday, with cities like Danville, Lynchburg, and Roanoke climbing into the upper 90s each day.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, daily highs from Friday through Monday will hover between 94°F and 97°F in places like Martinsville, Mt. Airy, and Reidsville. Combined with high humidity, the heat index could exceed 100°F during peak afternoon hours, raising the risk for heat-related illness.

Danville leads the region with forecast highs hitting 97°F Saturday and Monday. Lynchburg and Roanoke aren’t far behind at 96°F, while Radford and Blacksburg could reach 91°F by Monday. Even the typically cooler mountain towns of Bluefield and West Jefferson are forecast to stay in the mid-80s.

Officials urge residents to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day, wear light clothing, and drink water frequently—even if you don’t feel thirsty. Never leave children or pets in vehicles, where cabin temperatures can soar in minutes.

The heat will persist into early next week, with no major cooldown in sight. NWS may issue additional advisories if humidity levels continue to rise.
