Blacksburg, VA – An early-season freeze is expected to affect parts of Virginia tonight and tomorrow, with temperatures dropping below freezing in several regions. Low 30s will grip central and western parts of the state Tuesday morning, while Wednesday morning could see temperatures dip into the mid-20s to low 30s.
According to the National Weather Service, this cold snap may damage sensitive vegetation, especially after recent warm temperatures. The freeze warning extends through the next two mornings, with temperatures threatening plant life in areas such as Blacksburg, Roanoke, and Lexington.
Those with outdoor plants are advised to bring them inside if possible, or to cover them with protective materials to avoid frost damage. This is particularly important in areas like Bluefield, Boone, and Danville, where the freeze could be more severe.
The freeze threat follows the typical last freeze dates for Virginia: April 11th east of the Blue Ridge Mountains and April 21st to the west. Residents are urged to monitor conditions closely and take preventive measures to protect plants from the upcoming freeze.
