Virginia Beach, Virginia – A dangerous combination of intense heat and afternoon thunderstorms will hit Virginia Beach on Monday, July 28th, with heat indices climbing above 100° and a growing risk of localized downpours along Route 58 and Route 60.

According to the National Weather Service, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Sunday, but heat risks persist Monday as temperatures rise to 90° with humidity pushing the heat index as high as 102°. Scattered thunderstorms could develop after 2 p.m., potentially disrupting commutes and outdoor plans across the Tidewater region, especially in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake.

Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, hydrate frequently, and reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Thunderstorm risks may bring brief, heavy rainfall and gusty winds — posing hazards for power lines and low-lying roads.

On Tuesday, expect clear skies and highs around 89°, followed by slightly cooler, yet humid conditions midweek. Rain chances return by Thursday afternoon, leading into a more unsettled weekend.
