Wakefield, VA – Widespread showers and thunderstorms will bring locally heavy rainfall today, prompting a flood watch across much of Virginia. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch effective through late this evening due to the potential for flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the NWS, the region can expect 1 to 2 inches of rainfall with localized amounts up to 5 inches over a short period, which could lead to flash flooding. Beachgoers are also warned of high rip current risks at several coastal areas including Ocean City, Assateague, and Virginia Beach. The NWS advises swimming only in guarded areas and to heed any posted flags or signs.

Today’s weather in Wakefield is predicted to be cloudy with temperatures ranging from 71°F to 80°F. The hourly forecast indicates a high chance of rain throughout the morning, with a slight decrease in precipitation expected in the afternoon. Looking ahead, rain continues on Saturday with a high of 71°F and a 60% chance of showers.

By Sunday, conditions will improve with sunny skies and a high of 94°F. The upcoming week will see fluctuating temperatures and periodic rain, with highs reaching 99°F on Tuesday and cooling down to 84°F by Friday.
