Halifax, VA – Multiple motorists were rescued from floodwaters in Halifax County after recent heavy rains led to dangerous conditions and road closures, authorities said.

According to the Virginia State Police, troopers and specialized rescue teams responded to a series of water rescues overnight and into Tuesday after severe flooding swept through parts of the region. Halifax County, which has experienced ongoing flooding, saw several roads closed as crews worked to assist stranded drivers and ensure public safety. State Police were joined by South Boston Police, Halifax County rescue units, and volunteers from the Virgilina Fire Department during the response efforts.

Officials said the first rescue occurred around 11:53 p.m. Monday along North Fork Church Road. Responders found two vehicles trapped in floodwaters. One driver managed to escape on foot, while a second was reportedly rescued by a State Police Search and Rescue Team. Authorities confirmed neither driver suffered injuries.

A second incident happened Tuesday morning at approximately 8:20 a.m. on the 3000 block of Kingwoods Road. According to the release, a vehicle was swept into floodwaters, and the two occupants were safely rescued from the roof with no reported injuries.

State Police are reminding all drivers to obey posted signs, barrels, and barricades marking flooded roads. Authorities warn that just 12 inches of water can carry away a car and urge residents to turn around, not drown.
