Blacksburg, Va. – Heavy rain beginning Monday could trigger flash flooding and road closures across Virginia, especially along and south of the Blue Ridge, where creeks and rivers may rapidly overflow through Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a slow-moving low pressure system will deliver multiple rounds of showers and a few thunderstorms early next week. Rainfall totals are expected to reach 2 to 4 inches along the Blue Ridge and into North Carolina, with isolated areas potentially seeing more than 4 inches. Central Piedmont and Southside Virginia could see 2–3 inches, while areas west of the Blue Ridge may receive 1–2 inches.

Communities from Roanoke to Danville should prepare for rapidly rising waterways, possible localized mudslides, and road closures, especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) for excessive rainfall across much of the region.

Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, avoid driving through flooded roads, and secure belongings near streams. Flash flood watches or warnings may be issued as the system evolves. Rainfall impacts are expected to last through at least Wednesday morning.
