Spotsylvania, VA – A Spotsylvania man was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly driving under the influence and assaulting deputies during a confrontation, authorities said.
According to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 3:15 p.m. to the 8300–8500 block of Courthouse Road after reports that a vehicle had driven through a yard before coming to a stop in the grass. When deputies approached, they allegedly detected the odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath along with other signs of impairment.
Officials said the driver, later identified as John Morrow, 33, of Spotsylvania, placed the vehicle in gear and fled through the yard when asked to exit. Deputies stopped the vehicle a short distance away on Rawlings Court. Morrow was reportedly uncooperative, kicking multiple deputies and attempting to bite one of them before being restrained and taken into custody.
Authorities said Morrow faces multiple charges, including Driving Under the Influence – Second Offense, Refusal of Breath Test, Assault on Law Enforcement, and two counts of Obstruction of Justice. He was transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond.
The Sheriff’s Office commended the deputies involved for what it described as professionalism and resolve in handling what it called a volatile encounter, ensuring the safety of the public and law enforcement personnel.
