Spotsylvania, VA – A Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s deputy was struck by a vehicle Saturday night while directing traffic at a crash scene near Courthouse Road and Southpoint Parkway, according to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies had responded around 8:16 p.m. on October 4, 2025, to assist with a motor vehicle crash and provide traffic control. While managing the intersection, a silver Honda reportedly failed to slow for emergency personnel and struck one of the deputies on the driver’s side, throwing them to the ground.
According to Major Delbert Myrick, the driver fled the scene but was quickly located at a 7-Eleven on Hood Drive. Authorities identified the suspect as Jason Davis, 47, of Spotsylvania, who was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and Felony Hit and Run. Davis was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he remains held without bond.
The injured deputy was treated by Spotsylvania Fire and Rescue and taken to Mary Washington Hospital with minor injuries and significant pain. Officials say they are thankful the injuries were not more serious.
The Sheriff’s Office reminded drivers to follow Virginia’s “Move Over” law (Va. Code §46.2-861.1), which requires motorists to slow down or change lanes for emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights.
