Richmond, VA – Virginians will lose an hour of sleep this weekend as Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday. Clocks will spring forward one hour, giving longer daylight hours in the evening.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield reminds residents to adjust manual clocks before bed Saturday. Phones and smart devices will update automatically, but appliances, wall clocks, and car clocks may need manual changes.

Sunrise will shift from 6:30 a.m. Saturday to 7:29 a.m. Sunday. Sunset will extend from 6:10 p.m. to 7:11 p.m., providing more evening daylight.

Fire departments urge residents to change smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries when adjusting clocks. NOAA weather radios should also be checked.

Daylight Saving Time will remain in effect until Sunday, November 3, when clocks fall back again. The annual time change helps conserve energy and increase daylight hours in the warmer months.

Set clocks ahead before bed, check essential devices, and plan for the adjustment. Be prepared for darker mornings but brighter evenings as Virginia shifts into springtime daylight hours.
