Virginia Beach, Va. – Coastal Virginia is facing dangerous conditions through Friday as a tropical storm pushes strong winds, high surf, and flooding into the region. In Virginia Beach, gusts up to 45 mph could impact overnight travel and threaten low-lying neighborhoods with flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 2 p.m. Friday, alongside a Tropical Storm Warning and a Beach Hazards Statement. Seas up to 10 feet and rip currents are expected to make swimming and boating extremely hazardous.

Thursday will bring the worst of the storm with heavy gusts and scattered showers, followed by gradual improvement late Thursday night into Friday morning. Flood-prone roads such as Shore Drive and sections of Sandbridge may see water over pavement during high tide cycles. Emergency officials are urging residents to avoid nonessential travel and keep devices charged in case of outages.

By Friday afternoon, skies begin to clear with breezy conditions continuing into the evening. More typical late-summer weather returns this weekend with highs near 80 and only isolated storm chances.
