Virginia Beach, Va. – Dangerous weather is gripping the Virginia coast as multiple advisories remain in effect, with the National Weather Service warning of flooding, strong winds, and rough surf through Tuesday night. Residents from Virginia Beach to Norfolk could see roads underwater during high tide, making travel hazardous along low-lying routes.

According to the National Weather Service office in Wakefield, a Coastal Flood Warning, Wind Advisory, High Surf Advisory, and Flood Watch are all in place until at least Tuesday night. Northeasterly winds up to 39 mph, combined with gusts over 40 mph, will drive water inland, while rainfall totals could reach two inches by early Wednesday.

Areas most at risk include Virginia Beach’s oceanfront, Norfolk’s Elizabeth River shoreline, and low-lying neighborhoods across Hampton Roads. Emergency managers urge drivers to avoid flooded streets and beachgoers to stay out of dangerous surf. Power outages are also possible with tree limbs coming down in saturated soil and high winds.

Conditions are expected to ease gradually by Wednesday, with improving skies and calmer winds by Thursday. Still, residents should remain prepared for lingering flooding during high tides until water levels recede.
