VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – A cold front sweeping across coastal Virginia may bring the region’s first hint of snow before dawn Monday — a brief, slushy mix signaling fall’s fast fade into winter’s reach. Warm air lingers today with highs in the upper 60s, but clouds will thicken ahead of a stronger front pushing east by Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, showers are expected to increase Sunday afternoon, with steadier rain after sunset. As colder air rushes in behind the front, a narrow window of rain changing to wet snow could occur late Sunday night through early Monday, especially inland and north of the city. Surface temperatures will hover just above freezing, so accumulation isn’t likely, but slick spots could briefly develop on elevated bridges and overpasses.

By Veterans Day, skies will clear, but brisk northwest winds may gust near 25 mph, keeping temperatures in the 40s. Parades and ceremonies should plan for windchill values in the 30s by midmorning.

The chilly air mass will settle through midweek, signaling a lasting shift toward early winter conditions across the Tidewater region. Residents should protect plants and pipes, check heating systems, and keep coats handy as the season’s first real cold snap settles in.
