Virginia Beach, Virginia – A stretch of cool, breezy weather is settling across the Virginia Beach area, with cold overnight lows followed by a gradual warming trend through the end of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Early Tuesday morning, temperatures near Naval Air Station Oceana were around 33 degrees, with clear skies and a light breeze making conditions feel colder. Overnight lows are expected to dip near 31 degrees, bringing a freeze risk for sensitive plants and exposed outdoor plumbing.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield reports that Tuesday will be sunny but breezy, with west winds gusting up to 25 to 28 miles per hour and afternoon highs reaching around 40 degrees. Winds ease slightly Tuesday night as skies remain mostly clear and temperatures fall back into the upper 20s.

A gradual warming trend begins Wednesday, with highs near 45 degrees, followed by mostly sunny conditions on New Year’s Day, when temperatures are expected to reach the mid-40s. Overnight lows moderate into the low to mid-30s by midweek.

By Friday, highs are forecast to climb to around 48 degrees, offering milder conditions for coastal Virginia. While no hazardous weather alerts are currently in effect, forecasters note a chance of rain late Saturday, with precipitation probabilities increasing into the weekend. No winter precipitation is expected as temperatures remain above freezing during rain chances.

For commuters, students, and early-morning workers, the primary concern will be cold mornings and breezy conditions, particularly near the coast and open roadways. Drivers should watch for patchy frost during the coldest early hours.

The National Weather Service advises residents to continue monitoring forecast updates as temperatures fluctuate and rain chances increase later in the week.
