Virginia – Beachgoers at Virginia Beach face dangerous swimming conditions Tuesday as high rip current risks remain in effect through this evening. Officials warn that strong currents can pull even experienced swimmers offshore, making Tuesday a poor day for entering the water.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for Virginia Beach and the Currituck Outer Banks. Lifeguards strongly advise visitors to stay out of the surf until conditions ease. Safer swimming is expected Wednesday as rip current risks diminish.
Drivers along Shore Drive and U.S. Route 60 should also use caution Tuesday, as heavier beach traffic could combine with lingering coastal hazards. Northeast winds up to 13 mph will continue to stir rough surf before calming overnight.
Looking ahead, Virginia Beach shifts into a stretch of classic early fall weather. Sunshine dominates Wednesday through Friday with daytime highs rising into the upper 70s and low 80s. Nights cool into the upper 60s, offering relief from summer humidity.
Friday night brings ideal conditions for outdoor football games, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 70s. By the weekend, warmer air returns, pushing highs back toward the mid-80s Saturday. A weak system could bring a 30 percent chance of showers Saturday night and Sunday, but widespread rain is not expected.
Residents and visitors should remain alert for updated advisories, especially if planning weekend beach or boating trips.
