Roanoke, VA – A widespread frost advisory will take effect early Sunday morning, prompting residents across parts of Virginia and North Carolina to take precautions against unseasonably cold temperatures.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, the advisory begins at 2 a.m. and continues through 9 a.m. Sunday, April 13. Temperatures are expected to drop to between 32 and 34 degrees across central, south central, and southwest Virginia, as well as portions of north central and northwest North Carolina.

Affected areas include cities such as Roanoke, Lynchburg, Danville, and Bedford in Virginia, along with Eden, Dobson, and Wilkesboro in North Carolina. These conditions may lead to frost formation capable of damaging or killing sensitive outdoor plants.

Officials urge residents to cover or bring indoors any tender vegetation, especially in rural or low-lying areas where frost is most likely to form. Gardeners and growers should remain alert for additional cold weather alerts in the coming days.

This advisory marks one of the latest springtime frost events for the region in recent years, underscoring the importance of staying prepared as temperatures fluctuate sharply in April.
