Richmond, VA – Snow and icy conditions are affecting travel across Virginia, Maryland, and northeastern North Carolina as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM Thursday. The National Weather Service warns of slippery roads and hazardous driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, VA, additional snowfall of up to half an inch is expected in affected areas, including Richmond, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and portions of central and eastern Virginia. Parts of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, including Wicomico and Dorchester counties, and northeastern North Carolina, are also under the advisory.
Commuters should plan for slippery roads throughout the day, particularly in heavily impacted areas like Henrico, Chesterfield, and Prince Edward counties in Virginia. The advisory replaces the previous Winter Storm Warning, meaning heavy snowfall is no longer expected, but dangerous travel conditions persist.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling. For the latest road conditions, officials recommend calling 511 in Virginia and Maryland or visiting DriveNC.gov for North Carolina updates.
This winter weather is expected to taper off by the evening, but lingering slick spotscould affect the Friday morning commute in some areas.
