Violent Assault Near University of Illinois Campus: Five Attackers Ambush Pedestrian

Champaign, IL – A violent assault occurred early Sunday morning in the 600 block of East Green Street, near the University of Illinois campus.

According to University Police, a vehicle approached a pedestrian near Fourth and Green streets around 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Three individuals exited the vehicle and began chasing the pedestrian. Two additional offenders joined the chase near Fifth Street. The attackers caught up to the victim, who was not affiliated with the university, and assaulted him. The offenders fled the scene, and the victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, with University Police patrolling the campus area. Over 2,400 security cameras are installed around the campus to help deter crime and identify offenders.
