Terre Haute, IN – A woman died early Sunday morning after a motorcycle crash in Vigo County that led to charges against the driver.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash around 1:07 a.m. at the intersection of Frye Street and Crossland Road. Deputies found a deceased female near the motorcycle when they arrived.
The driver, identified as 43-year-old Robert Sekerak, had allegedly fled the scene and was later taken to the hospital by a passerby who did not realize another person was involved. Authorities said the Vigo County crash reconstruction team and the Coroner’s Office were called to investigate.
Sekerak was initially charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash and possession of a controlled substance, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials extended condolences to the victim’s family. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family,” Chief Deputy Steve Meng wrote in the release.
The investigation remains ongoing.
