Vigo County, IN – An individual was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly shooting a deer with a rifle in the Wabashiki Fish and Wildlife Area, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Law Enforcement.

Officers Max Winchell, Luke Tincher, Cole Hollingsworth, and Dustin Cary responded to the report and located the wounded deer. Conservation officers waited at the scene for the suspect to return, which they say he eventually did. The man was then taken into custody without incident.

According to authorities, the suspect was booked into the Vigo County Jail on multiple charges, including the illegal take of whitetail deer, hunting deer with illegal equipment, and hunting without a license.

Officials confirmed that the deer, which was recovered from the scene, was later donated to a family.

The Indiana DNR continues to remind hunters that all firearm and licensing regulations must be followed during deer season to ensure safety and wildlife conservation.
