Vigo County, IN – Deputies and rescue crews responded to a serious two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon that left one driver trapped inside his car near Terre Haute.

According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 2:25 p.m. on October 15, 2025, at the intersection of Erie Canal Road and Springhill Drive. A male driver was found trapped inside his vehicle and had to be extricated by Honey Creek Fire/Rescue before being transported by Transcare Ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say the collision happened when a Hyundai traveling north on Erie Canal Road stopped to yield for a funeral procession. A Chevrolet traveling behind the Hyundai allegedly failed to notice the stopped vehicle and crashed into its rear.

The crash briefly disrupted traffic in the area as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. Officials have not released the names of those involved, and the Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
