Washington, D.C. – Residents across the Mid-Atlantic are facing a cold and blustery Veterans Day, with wind chills dropping into the 20s by evening, according to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington.

The forecast calls for west winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph through the afternoon. Temperatures will hover in the low to mid-40s, but strong winds will make it feel much colder. By tonight, calmer winds will bring continued chilly conditions, with “feels like” readings in the upper 20s across the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region.

The weather service is urging residents attending outdoor ceremonies or events to bundle up, sharing safety graphics that recommend multiple layers, warm hats, gloves, and waterproof boots when temperatures drop below freezing thresholds.

By 7 p.m., forecasts show temperatures near 39°F in Washington, 38°F in Baltimore, and 37°F in Fredericksburg, with winds tapering off to around 10 mph.

Though conditions will gradually improve midweek, forecasters say this may be a preview of the colder pattern expected to settle across the Mid-Atlantic through mid-November.
