Vernon Hills, IL – With temperatures dropping across Lake County, the Vernon Hills Police Department has launched its 6th Annual Winter Coat Drive for Veterans, encouraging residents to donate warm clothing for local veterans and their families.

According to the department, donations of new or gently used coats, jackets, and cold-weather gear are being accepted through Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Vernon Hills Police Department lobby, located at 740 Lakeview Parkway.

All items collected will be delivered to Midwest Veteran’s Closet, a nonprofit organization that provides free clothing and essential household items to veterans in need. The drive is part of a community-wide effort coordinated with GLMV&K Chamber members to support those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The initiative welcomes donations in all sizes and styles, including kids’ and adult coats. Organizers emphasized that even a single contribution can help veterans and their families stay warm this winter.

Residents and local businesses are encouraged to participate by dropping off items during regular police department lobby hours.

“This is an easy way to make a real impact,” the department noted in its announcement. “Every donation makes a difference.”
