Burlington, VT – A snowy weekend is underway in the Champlain Valley, with snow showers continuing through Saturday evening, creating slick road conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the region, urging caution for drivers navigating the first significant snowfall of the season.
According to the NWS, snow accumulation overnight reached 1 to 3 inches in some areas, with additional light snowfall expected to taper off by late Saturday morning. Roads, particularly on secondary and less-traveled routes, may remain hazardous. Commuters are advised to allow extra travel time and use caution when approaching bridges and overpasses, which are prone to icing.
The forecast shows another round of snow beginning late Saturday night, with 1 to 2 inches possible before transitioning to a rain-snow mix Sunday morning. Highs on Sunday will climb to the upper 30s, briefly melting some of the accumulation. However, temperatures will drop again Monday night, potentially refreezing wet surfaces.
Looking ahead, the Champlain Valley will see mostly cloudy conditions through midweek, with a chance of rain or snow showers Tuesday and Wednesday. Snowfall in higher elevations could total 4 to 6 inches by early next week, while valley locations will experience a mix of precipitation.
Residents should monitor local updates and prepare for fluctuating conditions. Keep sidewalks and driveways clear to avoid ice buildup, and ensure vehicles are equipped for winter driving.
