Burlington, VT — A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snow, sleet, and ice to northern New York and much of Vermont through early Monday, making travel hazardous and raising the risk of power outages.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the storm will continue until 1 a.m. Monday, with snow and sleet accumulations ranging from 6 to 14 inches across the region. The St. Lawrence Valley in northern New York could see up to 16 inches, while southern Vermont may experience up to a quarter-inch of ice.

Strong winds along the western slopes of the Green Mountains are expected to cause power outages. A mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will impact central, southern, and eastern Vermont as well as parts of the Adirondacks, with snow returning by this evening.

Travel conditions will be treacherous. Officials advise carrying emergency supplies in vehicles. For updated road conditions, visit newengland511.org for Vermont and 511ny.org for New York.
