Burlington, VT – A slow-moving cold front is set to bring steady light rain across southern Vermont today, with the heaviest rainfall expected in Rutland and Windsor counties through Friday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, steady showers will impact areas south of Interstate 89, with rainfall totals generally ranging from 0.3 to 0.5 inches. Locally higher amounts—up to half an inch—are possible, particularly around Brattleboro, Bennington, and Manchester. North of Montpelier and Burlington, most locations are likely to remain dry.
Drivers in Springfield, Rutland, and along Route 7 should plan for slick roads and reduced visibility during peak showers. Emergency management officials recommend allowing extra travel time and keeping headlights on during rainfall. Residents in low-lying areas and near small streams should stay alert for minor flooding, especially where heavy bursts of rain occur.
While this is not expected to be a major flooding event, it marks one of the more widespread rain chances southern Vermont has seen in several weeks. The heaviest rain is forecast to taper off by mid-afternoon Friday, but additional showers may redevelop if the front stalls.
Rain chances diminish late Friday, but the National Weather Service advises checking for updated advisories in case heavier bands develop or the front lingers longer than expected.
