Burlington, Vt. – A sharp drop in temperatures late Monday night could leave parts of northern New York and Vermont waking up to frost on Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday for Essex County, Vt., along with southeastern St. Lawrence, southern Franklin, western Clinton, and western Essex counties in New York. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the low to mid-30s, allowing frost to form across valleys and sheltered areas.
Residents in Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Newcomb, and Tupper Lake, along with Island Pond and Lunenburg in Vermont, are urged to take precautions. Sensitive outdoor plants and late-season gardens may be damaged or killed if left unprotected. Covering plants with sheets or bringing potted flowers indoors is recommended.
Travel impacts are not expected, but the chill could serve as a reminder of the seasonal shift as cooler air takes hold across the North Country.
The advisory is set to expire by 8 a.m. Tuesday, with temperatures expected to rebound into the 60s during the afternoon. Additional frost alerts remain possible later this week as clear skies and calm nights continue.
