BURLINGTON, Vermont – After a stretch of mild fall weather, northern Vermont is bracing for a colder and potentially snowier pattern setting up for November 9–15. The region could see its first significant snowfall of the season as temperatures plunge and storm systems track in from the Great Lakes and Canada.

According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center, much of New England, including Vermont, is expected to see near-normal precipitation with near-normal temperatures, while warmer, drier air dominates farther west. This balance often favors quick swings between rain and snow, especially across the Green Mountains and the Upper Connecticut River Valley.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Burlington say a series of disturbances could bring light to moderate snow early next week, with potential for heavier, wetter snow by mid-November. Commuters along I-89, Route 7, and Route 2 should be alert for slick bridges, reduced visibility, and patchy black ice during morning hours.

Residents are encouraged to take winter-prep steps now — clean chimneys, seal windows, check heating systems, and store emergency supplies. With Thanksgiving less than three weeks away, even a modest early snow event could snarl travel and lead to power interruptions in rural areas if heavy, wet snow clings to trees and lines.
