Burlington, VT – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to sweep through Vermont today, bringing a significant risk of flash flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Burlington issued a flash flood warning as of 5:30 AM on Saturday, cautioning residents of the potentially hazardous conditions. The greatest risk is anticipated between 1 PM and 8 PM as the storms move eastward across the state.

According to the NWS, localized rainfall could exceed an inch per hour, especially during the heaviest downpours. This could lead to minor flooding in urban areas, poor drainage regions, and steep terrains. Additionally, sharp rises in smaller rivers and streams are possible, which may cause washed-out roads, ditches, and culverts. The NWS also warns that isolated thunderstorms may result in downed trees and power outages in some areas.

Looking ahead, the extended forecast shows a continuation of unsettled weather. Sunday is expected to be partly cloudy with a high near 78°F. Rain chances increase again on Monday, with a 70% chance of showers and a high of 73°F. Cooler temperatures will follow, with highs in the 60s and 70s through the middle of next week, along with a mix of sun and clouds.
