Burlington, VT – Vermont will step directly into winter as an Arctic Blast settles over the region from Monday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 5, ushering in a Cold December pattern marked by falling temperatures and increasing snow chances.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday brings a chance of rain and snow, with highs near 35°F and light west winds. This mixed precipitation will give way to colder conditions overnight as temperatures dive to around 17°F. Snow becomes more likely Monday night, with the NWS calling for a 40 percent chance of snow under mostly cloudy skies.

The wintry setup continues Tuesday as another disturbance moves through the region. Snow remains in the forecast with a 50 percent chance of snow and a high near 29°F, keeping travel conditions potentially slick during the morning commute. Although accumulations are expected to be light, forecasters caution that temperatures lingering below freezing may cause icy patches on untreated roads.

NOAA’s 6–10 Day Temperature Outlook supports this colder stretch, placing Vermont firmly in the below-normal temperature category for Dec. 1–5. The arrival of Arctic air signals the beginning of a more sustained winter pattern, with additional light snow chances possible later in the week.

Residents across Burlington and the surrounding region should monitor updated forecasts as colder temperatures and intermittent snow showers continue to shape early December weather.
