Burlington, VT – A cold front will sweep across Vermont later today, bringing widespread showers and a noticeable shift to cooler fall temperatures, according to the National Weather Service Burlington.
Meteorologists say rainfall is expected to begin during the afternoon hours Tuesday, Oct. 7, with precipitation probabilities rising sharply between 4 p.m. and midnight. Areas including Burlington, Montpelier, St. Albans, and Rutland could see rain chances as high as 95 percent by this evening.
According to the weather service, high temperatures will reach the mid-70s to near 80 degrees before the front passes. Showers will taper off Wednesday morning, Oct. 8, as cooler and drier air settles across the region.
Residents are advised to keep umbrellas and rain gear handy for the evening commute, as steady rain may cause slower travel and reduced visibility on major routes, including Interstate 89 and U.S. Route 7.
Wednesday will bring a return to typical autumn weather, with highs only in the 60s and a crisp, breezy feel expected throughout the day.
