Burlington, Vermont – A more active winter pattern is expected to take shape across Vermont beginning Tuesday, February 10, as the 8–14 day outlook points to increasing precipitation and temperatures returning closer to seasonal norms through Monday, February 16. The shift raises the likelihood of snow events across much of the state as colder air reestablishes itself.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, above-average precipitation is favored across the Northeast during the February 10–16 period, including Vermont. Temperatures are projected to hover near normal for mid-February, keeping daytime highs and overnight lows close to the freezing mark. While warmer-than-average conditions dominate the central United States, northern New England is expected to remain locked in a more seasonable winter pattern.

This setup supports multiple chances for snow rather than one major storm system. Higher elevations and interior sections of Vermont, including the Green Mountains and areas along Routes 100 and 4, could see more frequent accumulating snow. In the Champlain Valley, including Burlington, Colchester, and South Burlington, snow is still possible, especially during overnight and early morning hours when surface temperatures dip below freezing.

Fluctuating temperatures may create challenging travel conditions at times, with slick roads developing quickly during snow bursts or refreezing periods. VTrans crews may need to treat roadways repeatedly if precipitation arrives in waves rather than a single event.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated outlooks, plan for winter driving conditions, and keep emergency supplies readily available. With the colder, wetter pattern expected to persist through Monday, February 16, additional advisories or snow-related alerts may be issued as confidence increases heading into next week.
