Burlington, VT – Snowflakes are expected to blanket much of northern Vermont and New York’s North Country today as a fast-moving clipper system sweeps across the region. By late afternoon, light snow will spread eastward, creating slick travel through tonight and into early Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, 1 to 4 inches of accumulation is possible, with the heaviest totals likely in higher terrain. Roads will become snow covered and slippery, especially after sunset, and reduced visibility may complicate evening travel. Motorists are urged to use caution, particularly along I-89, Route 7, and secondary roads near Chittenden and Addison Counties.
By Monday morning, colder air will funnel in behind the departing system, sending wind chills into the single digits. Patchy blowing snow may linger through midday, keeping conditions icy on untreated surfaces. Temperatures will struggle to reach the upper teens, and any snowmelt from the afternoon sun could quickly refreeze by nightfall — a prime setup for black ice.
The rest of the week stays seasonably cold, with light snow chances returning Wednesday night into Thursday. Another, stronger system could arrive toward Dec. 11–17, bringing renewed snow across the Great Lakes and New England — an early preview of holiday travel challenges ahead.
