Burlington, Vt. – After a quieter Friday evening with rain tapering off, Vermont is bracing for another round of strong to severe thunderstorms Saturday, with the greatest risk between noon and 8 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, storms are expected to redevelop by midday Saturday, bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts, heavy downpours, and isolated hail. The threat zone stretches across northern and central Vermont, including Burlington, Montpelier, Stowe, and Middlebury.
Localized flooding may occur on low-lying roads, especially in areas that saw steady rain earlier in the week. Outdoor plans and events may be disrupted by rapidly changing conditions. Drivers on I-89, Route 7, and Route 2 should remain alert for sudden visibility drops and slick roadways during afternoon travel.
Emergency officials urge residents to secure outdoor objects, charge devices, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. “Have a plan to move indoors quickly if a warning is issued,” the NWS advised in a Friday night update.
The severe weather window is expected to close by late Saturday evening, but forecasters warn that additional watches or alerts may be issued early in the day as the system approaches from the west.
