Burlington, VT – Vermont residents are being urged to prepare for a period of unstable winter weather as several Alberta Clippers may bring pop-up snowstorms every other day from Saturday, December 7, through Friday, December 13, according to early forecasts. The active setup could cause repeated travel challenges across northern New England and the broader Northeast.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a strong northwest-flow pattern will guide multiple clipper disturbances over the Great Lakes and into New England next week. These fast-moving systems—often referred to as the “Clipper Express”—can produce sudden bursts of snow, gusty winds, and quick temperature drops.

The first system is expected Saturday night, with additional disturbances likely to arrive in 48-hour intervals. Snow accumulations remain uncertain, but the NWS says even brief snow bursts could lead to slick roads across Burlington, Winooski, and surrounding communities along the I-89 corridor.

Forecasters note that the exact track of each clipper will determine how much snow falls and where. The Green Mountains—including Stowe, Waitsfield, Killington, and the higher elevations—may see enhanced snowfall as moisture interacts with terrain.

Travel impacts could extend statewide—from Rutland and Montpelier to St. Albans and Brattleboro—as Vermont remains directly aligned with the jet stream transporting these disturbances out of western Canada and across New England.

The NWS urges residents to follow frequent forecast updates as timing and intensity may change with each approaching wave.
